National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On September 30, we wear orange to recognize Orange Shirt Day. This day is about honouring the children who attended residential schools, remembering those who did not come home, and supporting the survivors and their families. Orange Shirt Day began with the story of Phyllis Webstad, who had her new orange shirt taken away on her very first day at residential school. Her story has become a powerful reminder that Every Child Matters. By wearing orange, we show that we care, we remember, and we are committed to treating every child with love and respect. In School District 59, we encourage all students, staff, and families to wear Orange on September 30 and take part in learning activities that help us grow in understanding, kindness, and reconciliation.
